1804 Taylor Street is part of a three-home infill project in Historic East Durham centered on West 4th’s Preservation + Density approach. By using Durham’s reduced lot and small-lot home standards, the development transformed an oversized corner property into an opportunity for additional housing while preserving a long-standing home connected to five generations of local history.

Rather than choosing between preservation and new development, the project demonstrates how carefully planned residential infill can increase housing supply while maintaining the architectural and cultural fabric of an established Durham neighborhood.
